Position: OSP Engineer - Outside Plant Fiber Engineer (Full Time)

Salary Range: Salary based on experience and qualifications

General Statement of Duties:

OpenCape Corporation is a 501c3 nonprofit technology company headquartered in Barnstable Village. OpenCape owns and operates the state-of-the-art 100% Fiber Optic Network built to serve local governments, businesses, and residents of Southeastern MA, Cape Cod, the Islands, and Rhode Island. Our 100% Fiber Optic Network is on par with the most sophisticated and technically proficient fiber networks in the world.

The Outside Plant Fiber Engineer will work with our team of OSP Engineers providing a wide range of duties to effectively and efficiently maintain and grow the OpenCape Network. This position will develop engineering plans for Network expansions, upgrades and repairs. Effectively communicate and work closely with the leadership team and Network Operations Manager before site visits to get an understanding of the project requirements, expectations, and timeline. Obtain and prepare the backup material, maps, contacts, data, and any other materials needed by contractors to advance and complete their work. Work efficiently with contractors to ensure their estimates are feasible. Assist in recognizing potential customer prospects while in the field and communicate developing leads to the team. Assist, as needed with oversight of managing build-out, quotes with vendors, and communicate with Network Operations Manager & CTO about project specifications and plans for build-outs.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and design plans for network expansions
  • Maximize the most feasible and economical building plans for customers and the organization
  • Supervise buildout projects from start to finish. Effectively communicate with customers and the OpenCape team throughout the project.
  • Maintain and update the OSP network system.
  • Complete Dept. of Transportation (DOT) Project Management: Plans, documentation, paperwork, meetings, and coordinate communications with team and vendors

Additional Responsibilities – Prior experience preferred but will train the right person

  • Inspect and assess poles for builds and licensing
  • Respond to emergency outages and coordinate response with team and vendors
  • Identify, investigate, and respond to accidents involving utility poles with OpenCape attachments.
  • Assist in ongoing inspection of the 550+ mile network to identify repairs or maintenance needed and coordinate with vendors.

Qualifications:

  • Associates degree or higher in engineering or related field and relevant experience
  • 5+ years related experience in engineering, fiber-optic networks, or telecommunications
  • Experience with Windows-based programs
  • Experience with AutoCAD, OSPInsight, ICGS, Visio or equivalent programs
  • Possess both internal and external leadership and communication (both written and oral) skills

Working Conditions

This position works Full-time, onsite in a normal office setting with no exposure to adverse environmental conditions the majority of the time. Could be required to travel to local project sites with potential exposure to heavy equipment and environmental conditions. This position may require on-call rotation involvement.
