In return for their financial commitment to OpenCape, the State received an apportioned amount of dark fiber on the network.

Community Partners

  • Barnstable County
    The Barnstable County Commission manages the Regional Area Network (RAN) on behalf of OpenCape. The RAN is shared 1 Gigabit fiber bandwidth available to every town with a Community Anchor location – more than 86 locations in all. CapeNet is the Commission’s RAN service provider. The bandwidth is subsidized by the Commission and provided at no cost to participating towns. The shared bandwidth can be used for Internet access, point-to-point connectivity between anchor institutions, and access to Commission initiatives for smarter government, including the ePermitting, Licensing and Inspection System.
  • Cape Cod Technology Council
    The CCTC is a professional business organization that facilitates technology entrepreneurship, promotes technology education for business, encourages technology curriculum at the secondary and higher education levels, and advocates digital inclusion for citizens in our region.
  • Smarter Cape Partnership
    Smarter Cape Cod’s objective is to create a vibrant Cape Cod community for the 21st century – one that supports the evolution of our economy from service-based to knowledge-based, and uses our recently built, fast, reliable and robust technology infrastructure to improve our quality of life by making the way we do things smarter.

    The Cape Cod Commission carries out it's mission by leading, supporting, and enforcing the development of regional plans, policies, regulations, and infrastructure to guide and manage growth, and by supporting the 15 Cape Cod towns with professional and cost-effective planning and technical support services.

    The CCEDC accomplishes their mission by providing financial support via grants for innovative projects that strengthen the Cape’s economic infrastructure by collaborating with the non-profit, public and private sectors on economic development initiatives.
