Help! I Need Your Help To Save My Business

This is a call we get every week at OpenCape: a small to mid-sized business that is having significant challenges with its technology. Sometimes it is simply their hardware, sometimes it is just user error, but most of the time it has to do with their network connection. This is especially true on Cape Cod, where business packages marketed heavily by the national provider are notorious for promising speeds up to 150mbps or 250mbps, when, in reality, some businesses are seeing 25mbps for downloads and even worse, 5mbps or 10mbps for uploads.

Many businesses have called to complain that they simply can't connect or use critical systems because of poor connectivity. That is just one reason we built our passive optical network (PON) on Main Street in Falmouth, in response to businesses who struggled even to process credit cards transactions!

OpenCape offers two types of internet service, and there are a few things to know about what they are and how they differ:

  1. Dedicated and Symmetrical: Dedicated service is exactly what it sounds like: a fixed bandwidth connection directly to your business or home. Do you need 100mbps, 500mbps or 1GB? Maybe you need as much as 400GBPS. With dedicated service, that is what you are going to get 24/7/365. It is also Symmetrical, which means your upload and download speeds will be the same and will never vary or slow down. Dedicated and Symmetrical service also has built-in redundancy that offers some protection against outages. In 2020, the OpenCape network was down less than 4 minutes… ALL YEAR! This level of service will eliminate any issues you have and you simply won't have to worry about connectivity. There is a one-time connection fee in addition to the cost for monthly service, which varies depending on what level of service you require. Dedicated and Symmetrical service is more costly than typical service, but it is 1,000 times better. How much is your peace of mind worth?
  2. GPON: GPON is short for Gigabit Passive Optical Network. If you are lucky enough to have a business on Main Street Falmouth or Hyannis, we can offer a shared Gigabit service to your business. GPON is a very reliable service that delivers varying speeds based on the number of users. However, unlike many of our competitors, OpenCape does not oversubscribe our GPON service. That means you will nearly always see minimum speeds of 150mbps or better. This service is typically priced under $100/month.

We are happy to talk with you to help you better understand which service best fits your needs. We will introduce you to our team so if you do have a service issue or question, you can make one phone call and speak to someone who knows your business: no phone queue, no endless wait times. The best part is that every OpenCape client has ALL our service teams members cell phone numbers.
